Shooting at Howe Park Results in Multiple Gunshot Victims in Arden-Arcade Sacramento

Sacramento County deputies are investigating a gunfire incident that broke out late Saturday at Howe Park in Sacramento while law enforcement were dissolving an unlawful assembly of hundreds of attendees.

How It Started

Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office initially got calls about Howe Park at approximately half past six in the evening after getting calls of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. An overhead unit flew over the park but reported no active disturbance. Nevertheless, it became clear that several hundred individuals had congregated at Howe Park without official sanction.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies began the process of clearing the park by surrounding the park and announcing over their public address systems telling the crowd to disperse at once. Approximately 15 minutes were spent for individuals to vacate.

While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that between 20 and 25 rounds cut through the air. Gunfire caused mass panic. Responding personnel swiftly started looking for those injured.

Four Victims Hospitalized

Ultimately, four people were found to have been shot. The four individuals — made up of one woman and three men each apparently in their 20s — were brought to area medical facilities. Emergency physicians confirmed that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one had moderate injuries, and one had injuries classified as minor. Fortunately, all four were expected to survive.

Sacramento Metro Fire provided support and provided medical assistance shooting victims at the park.

Evidence at the Scene

The bulk of the shooting was confirmed to have unfolded adjacent to Cottage Way alongside the Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Crime scene investigators found extra shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Bullet holes were identified in the iron perimeter fence alongside the Home Depot store. This evidence showed that a shooter had been firing southward from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot. The store itself was placed on lockdown as a precaution. CSI units alongside detectives worked tirelessly through the early morning hours.

Arrests Made

Information obtained over scanner radio traffic confirmed that a Kia was contacted by law enforcement in an area within Solano County. Four people were detained. Law enforcement units were traveling to Solano County to bring the suspects back for investigation. Video that was reviewed made clear that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
